How Do Plumbers Replace Sinks & Sink Pipes?

Having to replace your sink pipes means there is a serious problem with one of the components of your kitchen sink. There may be a very large blockage in your sink, or the pipes may be damaged beyond repair due to their age or other problems. Even if you’ve tried your best to properly maintain your sink on a regular basis, problems can still develop, and you may end up needing to hire reliable plumbing services in Chino.

How do you replace sink pipes?

One of the most common reasons for replacing sink pipes is to update your old, metal pipes with modern, plastic ones. Plastic pipes do not corrode, and they clog less easily. Otherwise, there may be other problems that require you to change your sink piping.

Whatever the reason, here’s a step-by-step guide to replacing your sink pipes:

First and foremost, shut off all the water vales beneath your sink so you don’t have to worry about a family member accidentally turning the water on.
Remove the existing pipes by unscrewing all the nuts that connect the drain extension and the waste line to the P-trap. If the nuts won’t budge, try using a spray lubricant to loosen them.
Remove the trap inlet from the tailpiece by pulling it down. If you’re working with a double sink, you need to pull both of the inlets away. Pull the P-trap laterally out to remove it, and keep holding it upright until pouring all the water out of it.
Take the entire drain assembly carefully apart, separate it into individual components, and replace every component with a plastic one.
Use PVC fittings, pipes, and P-trap to replace your metal pipes. Use a hacksaw to cut the PVC pipes into suitable lengths. Make sure to use the PVC pipes of the same diameter as your metal pipes.
Secure drain inlets to sink tailpieces. Remove the plastic washers by unscrewing compression nuts on individual inlets. Tapered side down, fit the washer onto the end after sliding the nut up the tailpiece. Start pushing the drain pipe against the washer, then screw the nut onto the thread after sliding it down. Tight everything by hand.
Dry-fit your assembly and make sure everything fits well. Once you’re sure everything fits, use PVC cement to glue all connections without compression connectors.
Turn the water on, fill the sink and look out for leaks. If necessary, tighten connections using adjustable pliers.
